What are the walls??

  • thickness measurement in a panel house: partitions – 80–100 mm, load-bearing – 140–240 mm;
  • if the house is brick, then the size will be a multiple of the size of the brick: 120 mm × 2 + thickness of the vertical seam (on average 10 mm) + thickness of the finishing layer – thus, the thickness of the load-bearing surface starts from 380 mm and above;
  • invite specialists who will independently take measurements.

Crucial! Plasterboard covering, a layer of plaster, and other finishing techniques affect the wall’s thickness in a home. Thus, in the event that the apartment has undergone prior renovations, the thickness of the "treatment" is established prior to measurement.

Repair stages

Cleaning is done up to the point where, depending on the material of the house’s walls, either brickwork or a concrete monolith emerges.

Drying and disinfection

The surfaces must air dry once the old coating has been removed. They are kept in a ventilated area for a few days in order to accomplish this. However, this does not ensure that the lowest layers will become dry.

At this point, using a hair dryer is preferable. These tools are available for purchase or short-term rental from specialized businesses. The thickness of the masonry affects how long it takes to dry.

Suggestions. A small piece of film should be placed on the surface and left overnight to check for moisture. More drying is needed if the film still has moisture droplets on it in the morning.

Covering the walls is done in 1 mm, since a larger layer will begin to fall off. If you need to level the surface, then the mixture will have to be applied in several passes.

Lathing

You will require a U- and C-profile in order to create such a design. Although wood (timber, 40 x 80 mm) is also acceptable, its useful life is shortened. Objectively speaking, unlike ceiling structures, no kind of wall—load-bearing or partitioning—takes on such a heavy load. Consequently, the lathing is done more to provide sound and noise insulation to the room than it is to strengthen it.

Foam plastic slabs are inserted into the frame’s cells because they are a material that holds its properties and shape well over time.   3. Old paint or plaster. In Soviet apartments, paint was often used as a coating for walls. It was applied in a thick layer, so it can only be removed with a chisel and hammer. Similar tools are used for plaster if it is not removed by soaking.

Elimination of defects

Checking for drops, cracks, crevices, and other defects on the inner wall is imperative as soon as the previous coating is removed. You will require the following supplies and equipment for liquidation: reinforced tape, spatula, and leveling mixture.

  • the damaged area is completely cleaned and degreased;

  • It will take 2-3 hours for the wall of the house to dry completely, and then this area is cleaned using a grinding machine or a block.
