A chandelier mounting hook is far more frequently used. Here, the ceiling is stretched after an anchor bolt is used to fasten a hook. A perforation is made in the canvas beneath the mount to accommodate the wires and suspension (chain, cable). To stop the film or cloth from spreading, unique rings are used to reinforce the edges of the hole.

Integrated. The main ceiling has an embedded base that is pre-attached with electrical wires. The stretched material develops a hole in it. It is filled with a lamp that has unique springs inside of it that, when straightened, hold the lamp in the platform (see photo). In this instance, the area between the stretched canvas and the ceiling conceals the light source almost entirely.

LED light bulbs. Light-Emitting Diode, or LED for short, is the light source in an LED lamp. These are long-lasting, low-cost light sources that have a luminous flux power ten times greater than incandescent lamps. Among the benefits is that the lightbulb doesn’t contain any dangerous substances, like mercury vapor.

Every type of LED lamp has a different design; they are made up of a base, a metal case (different bases have different types of cases, unlike incandescent and discharge lamps), a board with an LED and a power converter, and a translucent plastic bulb to cover the board.

There are numerous benefits to this lamp.

  • long service life (about 6 years versus 1 year for fluorescent lamps);
  • different colors of light, which allows you to choose a lamp for any room in the apartment;
  • operation at low heating temperatures of the light emitter: the LED chip heats up to 75 degrees Celsius, the tungsten filament up to several hundred degrees;
  • different type of base, providing for the replacement of all previous lamps: incandescent and fluorescent lamps.
  • overheating by just 2 degrees (over 75) leads to gradual degradation of semiconductor crystals: tarnishing, and then complete destruction, which requires constant heat removal;
  • high price;
  • impossibility of replacing lamps with G5 socket.3 and GX53 – they form a single unit with the lamp.

By shapes and sizes

Retail chains are brimming with different variations of suspended ceiling lamps these days; the selection is so vast that it makes your eyes water. Given these circumstances, it’s critical to understand how to select a spotlight for suspended ceilings based on the size and form of the ceiling.

Lamp shapes can differ greatly. Everything relies on the concepts for interior design. You can use traditional and asymmetrical shapes, and the lamp itself can be altered to include different types of light bulbs in one body or vice versa. It can also take the form of an oval or circle and be composed of glass, plastic, metal, or ceramics. Store shelves feature square and rectangular lamps for those who prefer clean geometric lines. Every kind of lighting fixture has a standard base size, and for LED lamps, a housing as well. This is done in order to standardize on the installation units and ceiling hole sizes for recessed point light sources. An overhead lamp’s weight must be considered when selecting a size; the larger the lamp, the lower the ceiling should be in relation to the ceiling (up to 6-7 cm, instead of 5 cm).

By type of base

There are many different kinds of bases for lamps, but in order to plan a well-thought-out lighting system, you only need to be aware of three types of bases:

G5.3 Base Suitable for both LED and halogen lighting. The light bulb is housed inside the housing, which makes it unique. This has a number of negative effects:

  • the light is not scattered throughout the room, but is emitted in the form of an expanding beam (like a spotlight), resulting in illumination produced in spots, one from each bulb;
  • placing the lamp entirely in the lamp body leads to its overheating, which requires intensive heat removal. Lack of ventilation complicates the process of cooling the light source. Aluminum radiators help. Replacing metal with composite materials leads to rapid failure of LED lamps and destruction of the ceiling fabric;
  • such lamps cannot be more powerful than 7 W – they simply cannot accommodate additional semiconductor crystals.

The light bulb protrudes from the housing by 4-5 mm in the modified GX53 base. This lamp arrangement made it possible for:

  • increase the light dispersion angle to 180 degrees;
  • achieve heat removal directly from the surface of the lampshade, which reduced the load on heat removal from the lamp body;
  • to produce, along with static light sources, also rotating ones, which significantly diversifies the design possibilities for apartment lighting;
  • increase the lamp power;
  • receive all three colors of light (warm, neutral, cool).

Energy-efficient LED and fluorescent lights have the GX53 socket installed.

In contrast to the other options under consideration, Base G9 features a light bulb that protrudes fully from both the lamp body and the ceiling. While this type of light source has a maximally diffused luminous flux, it is not as efficient in terms of lighting as models with a GX53 base, wherein part of the light is directed upward and absorbed by the matte ceiling canvas, and the remaining glossy light is scattered again along the walls.

There are major benefits that outweigh this minor disadvantage:

  • there is no problem of heat removal;
  • no power restrictions;
  • simple operation – replacing a burnt-out lamp is carried out by simple steps: removing the old one and installing a new one;
  • there are adapters for lamps with a different base;
  • a large selection of light bulbs with different types of light production;
  • affordable price, including for LED lamps.
