  • Gas boilers. Consistent leaders in the field of heating units. The reason for its popularity is the low (relative to other energy sources) price in Russia. By the way, in Europe and other countries where natural gas is purchased at the state level, such boilers are much less common. Pros – stability of operation, price, features – you need to equip a gas outlet channel, obtain permits, cut into the gas supply line. Despite the high costs at the initial stage, gas boilers are one of the fastest payback.

  • Solid fuel boilers. A wide range of materials can be burned in these devices: from coal and firewood to special granules called pellets. One of the advantages is complete autonomy from both gas and electricity. The solid fuel boiler can be used in any conditions if there is gravitational circulation of the coolant in the system. Disadvantages – increased fire hazard when loading fuel, special requirements for the premises and the presence of an exhaust chimney. Unlike gas, which is supplied automatically, a solid fuel boiler must be periodically filled with fuel. Installing heat accumulators and automatic feeding systems allows us to solve this issue, but only partly.

Electric boilers. They have a lot of advantages when installing and placing. Electrical units do not require a separate room or exhaust ducts because nothing is burned. Among boilers they are the most environmentally friendly. Thanks to their operation on electric current, they have a high level of automation, and the absence of pipelines for supplying burned energy carriers greatly simplifies the design, eliminating nozzles, burners, furnaces and similar elements of fuel boilers. They have only two disadvantages, but they are significant: the high cost of electricity when paying utility bills and the vulnerability of the heating system during a power outage. If there is no “light” in the house, the electric boiler stops functioning.

Boilers that generate heat through burning have a lot in common, even though they use different fuels; among these are installation guidelines. It is also possible to calculate a parameter like power without considering the kind of boiler.

Choosing a heating scheme for a heating boiler in a private house

Consequently, before investing in a heat-producing unit, heating wiring needs to be supplied. The fact that there are more similarities than differences in the heating circuits of all types of boilers facilitates the task.

Gravity diagram

This scheme is typically used to connect to a liquid or solid fuel boiler. In modern gas boilers, gravity circulation of the coolant is not necessary if we tackle the problem strictly, considering the preservation of efficiency. There’s already a built-in circulation pump in a lot of wall-mounted and floor-mounted models with electronic control that forces water or antifreeze through pipes and radiators. Such a boiler will not function in the event of frequent power outages.

Nonetheless, gravity circuits still work in many homes in tandem with a basic gas boiler that is mechanically controlled and non-volatile. The system generates enough water pressure through the use of large diameter heating pipes to ignite the gas burner. In earlier systems, the rooms were surrounded by pipes with a cross-section of between 100 and 150 mm. Such a design is robust and dependable in and of itself, but its heat transfer is minimal. To lower hydrodynamic resistance, the diameter of the supply pipes used when installing radiators must be at least 40 mm.

An expansion tank is a necessary component in gravity systems. The increased volume causes excess water to enter the tank if the system’s water temperature rises. In the event of an abrupt increase in pressure, the tank insures the system against leaks and depressurization. The top point is where the tank is always found in open-type systems.

Gravity circuit with a single pipe. This indicates that the coolant goes through each radiator in turn before making its way back through the "return." Bypasses, or bypass pipes with shut-off valves, are used in such systems to install batteries. This allows for battery replacement and disassembly without halting the boiler or draining the coolant. In order to release trapped air within the wiring, a Mayevsky valve is also fitted on every radiator.

Forced circulation circuit

The only disadvantage of this type of heating wiring is the dependence on the presence of voltage in the household electrical network. In addition to the boiler, the second important component of this scheme is the circulation pump, which cuts into the “return” before returning it to the boiler. Modern pumps are silent, efficient and consume electricity the same as an incandescent light bulb. But thanks to this device, it becomes possible to make a choice in favor of a two-pipe system. In this case, the piping pipe passes through all heated rooms of the house. From it, a separate stream of hot water is supplied to each battery, and from it the cooled coolant is drained into the “return”, which is the very second pipe in the circuit. This allows you to distribute heat evenly across all radiators and maintain the same temperature even in the rooms furthest from the boiler.

In order to create a specific pressure in the system, if there is a circulation pump, the expansion tank needs to be closed. An emergency pressure relief valve is included in case the normal values are exceeded.

A make-up unit that pours coolant into the system is required for both schemes. In order to fill the pipelines with water, a pipe from the water supply network is cut, and a filtration system is installed at the inlet. An inlet valve with shut-off valves is installed when using antifreeze, and a "baby" submersible pump or other pumping apparatus is used to carry out the injection.

For boilers with an open combustion chamber that consume air from the room during the combustion process, good and powerful ventilation must be provided to ensure sufficient air flow. The materials from which the floor and walls of the room are made must be non-flammable.

But it’s often forgotten that single-circuit gas heaters up to 60 kW can be installed in any room of the house; above that capacity, they can only be placed in the basement or in a separate boiler room that isn’t used for residential use. In other words, since gas boilers rarely surpass the designated power limit, the boiler may technically be installed in any room that satisfies the listed requirements.

As a result, you must consider the boiler’s power and associated equipment when deciding where to install it. There’s no need to spend square meters on a utility room with a boiler for boilers meant for small houses. However, you cannot live without a boiler room if the house is big, two- or even three-story, the owners want to install an indirect heating boiler and heat accumulator, and a powerful boiler has been chosen to heat the property.

Preparing the premises

The conditions must be met whether the boiler is placed in the kitchen, the dressing room, or a different combustion room. An open fire should never be taken lightly, especially if natural gas is supplied through a pipeline that has the potential to blow up.

First, address flame resistance. Coal does not leap out of a gas boiler like it does from a potbelly stove, but the walls and floor surrounding it must be totally non-flammable. When cladding a wooden room, care must be taken to ensure that a non-combustible heat insulator—such as stone wool—is placed between the solid wood and the top non-combustible sheet. Step 2. Provide good ventilation. If we are talking about a room with a window, then a slightly open window or sash will not be enough. In addition, it is difficult to keep the windows open in the winter, which is when the boiler heater operates at its peak. It is necessary to arrange fresh ventilation. An exhaust system in the furnace is not required, because part of the air, along with combustion products, will constantly exit into the gas outlet channel. In the room without windows, the inflow is arranged on any outer wall, driving a through canal and placing a filter block and a suction fan from the inside.

Step 3. Installation of the base. Low -power floor boilers are not very heavy, but even for them the floor needs to be carefully inspected and prepared. As for boilers for heating large areas, they are very heavy and require a separate foundation. The situation is simpler if a monolithic reinforced concrete slab is made under the house – then you only need to remove the final floor and make it anew from solid non -combustible materials. With pile or tape foundation, you need to lay the floor pour a separate foundation from reinforced reinforced concrete. Light devices up to 150 kg can be installed directly on wooden logs, you only need to provide a monolithic screen of non -combustible material.

Connection to gas outlets and communications

Combustion products under the influence of draft are removed through the gas outlet channel. Today on sale there are steel chimneys made according to the coaxial scheme. Between two layers of stainless steel there is a layer of dense non-flammable insulation. Chimney pipes are mounted on brackets to the walls, the sections are fixed to each other with a special lock. From above, the entire structure is covered with an apron – a sheet of metal, which is laid overlapping with bends and facilitates the flow of water along the pitched roof, bypassing the gas outlet hole. The pipe head is equipped with a fungus or a visor to prevent precipitation from entering the pipe.

The boiler is then installed into the heating system. To accomplish this, the supply pipes have threaded connections made beforehand; these are welded on steel and soldered on polypropylene pipes. Fume tape or a mixture of sealant and plumbing flax is used to fasten the pipes to the boiler nozzles using nuts.

Finally, the gas main is connected to the device. You must call the gas service; you are unable to do this on your own. It becomes apparent what has to be done in what order: the gas workers must test the boiler right away if everything else has been completed.
